KUCHING: A Scout Food Bank set up in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic went a long way in bringing much needed help to those in need.

And Sarawak Scout Council president, Tan Sri William Mawan, said the movement owed it to the many who had stepped forward with minimum donations of RM1,000.

This made it possible for the scouts to help those whose livelihoods had been severely impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.

He also extended his gratitude to the Sarawak Scout Council members, Scout Commissioners and leaders for coming up with the initiative, which gave them a compelling reason to go all over the state to distribute food parcels.

“In some ways, the ability to go about under stringent standard operation procedures (SOPs) freed the commissioners and leaders from being bound to their homes.

“Of course, we hope that this kind of relief would be one-off and that the pandemic would not prolong.

“I hope the generosity of the donors will be rewarded by the Almighty,” he said during an appreciation dinner for the donors at a hotel here yesterday.

Earlier, Scout Council vice president, Jumaat Ibrahim praised all council members, commissioners, and leaders for their enthusiastic support for the initiative, which he said was a way for both scouts and donors to assist those in need of food during the pandemic.

Also present were Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan and deputy president Datuk Mohamad Safri Abdillah.
