KUCHING: Those who intend to return to their hometowns for the Hari Raya or Gawai celebrations are told not to do so in order to prevent the transmission of Covid-19.

Jemoreng assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya advised that members of the public must strictly obey the government’s instructions throughout the conditional movement control order (CMCO) period.

“Those in town who are planning to return to their respective hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya and Gawai, please do not go back first.

“This is because we fear that the virus could be brought into green zones, especially rural areas,” he told New Sarawak Tribune’s sister paper Suara Sarawak yesterday.

He reminded those who want to travel between districts to apply for a permit from the police first.

“It is better to apply for the permit two to three days before travelling and plan out how long is the travel period,” he said. He also said when leaving the house, one must put on their face masks and keep a distance of one-metre from each other when going out to buy daily essentials.
