THE views of the young generations should be taken into consideration in the formulation of policies and decision-making process.

He commended the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for the various initiatives and efforts, especially on education involving the young.

Quoting the Malay proverb melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya (to bend a bamboo while it’s still a shoot), he said it was necessary for the government to have policies that provided opportunities for the youth.

“The young generations must be given access to education so that they have the knowledge especially on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This will enable them to be on par with international standards.

“We want young Sarawakians to be equipped with the fullest capacity so that they can become world class citizens who can compete with those from the Europe, United States of America and Japan among others,” he said.

Sarawak, Jabu said, should not miss out on this in order to ensure young Sarawakians could make significant contributions to the state.

With the establishment of PBB new wing for members aged 18 to 28 years old, the former PBB deputy president said inputs from this group was essential.

“The young generations should not be afraid to voice out their opinions to the top leadership.

“I believe the party is very receptive to new ideas and the leaders have always been open to suggestions. Thus, the young generations who are coming in should not be shy in expressing their ideas and views.

“The leaders would also have to play their part in nurturing and guiding these young members so that they would be more matured and knowledgeable in the long run,” he said.

He added that the views, ideas, and ambitions of the young ones must be respected as it could be beneficial to the state and the country.
