KANOWIT: Appointed community leaders or KMKK (ketua masyarakat ketua kaum) are reminded not to leave their longhouses for too long.

Emphasising this, Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana said, a KMKK should be in the longhouse at all times in line with the responsibilities entrusted to him.

However, he said, it is possible that a KMKK has other commitments or important matters, it is inevitable if they are not in the longhouse due to some matters.

“They can leave their respective longhouse unattended, but don’t leave it for too long. As the head of the longhouse, all matters related to the residents and the area of the longhouse are your responsibility,” he said.

Anyi said this when officiating a community programme organised by the Kanowit Community Development Department (KEMAS) Office at Rumah Taboh Rimau, Nanga Ngungun recently.

The ceremony was also attended by KEMAS Kanowit District Officer Siti Jaauyah Ismail, Penghulu Ron Ugai and other invited guests.

In addition, he hoped that the KMKK would know how to play their role in helping to convey government policies to the people under their jurisdiction.

In another matter, Anyi explained how to apply for identity cards and birth certificates for people who did not yet have birth certificates and identity cards.

Apart from that, he also touched on projects such as those under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), Minor Rural Programme (MRP), the State Development Office (SDO) as well as ‘Program Penambahbaikan Rumah Rakyat Miskin Sarawak (PPRMS)’ and how to apply for them.

In this regard, Anyi called on the locals, especially the residents of Ngemah constituency to contact his staff at the Ngemah Service Centre in Kanowit town for any complaints and inquiries.

At the same time, he congratulated the KEMAS Kanowit District Office on the programme organised.

Anyi hoped that such programme could be continued by the KEMAS Kanowit District Office more often in the constituency in the future with various activities.

At the event, there were three programme activities, namely, Handicraft Demo and Health Screening, Financial and Investment Fraud Talk as well as aerobics.

Earlier, he handed over a donation from the Sibu Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) to the heirs of the late Lugom Ranji, which was witnessed by its branch manager Tan Phang Chia.
