KUCHING: Flood victims have been advised not to set up their own temporary evacuation centres as there are proper standard operating procedures (SOPs) that need to be followed in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the setting of the PPS is under the responsibility of SDMC.

“We have found a few cases whereby people feel that they need to move, they look for a place and set up the temporary PPS. Please do not do that.

“In this situation where we are faced with Covid-19, the SOPs in the PPS are very tight,” he said during the SDMC Covid-19 update press conference on Friday (Jan 15).

He explained that unlike before, flood victims must be separated and now they were not allowed to cook, and instead packed foods were given to them.

“Therefore, we appeal to the villagers, village chiefs and community leaders to contact the local authorities if there is a need to move to the PPS,” he said.
