POLITICIANS and the public are urged not to stir racial sentiments and to respect the sensitivities of Sarawak’s diverse communities.

Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said that unity in Sarawak remains strong, and no sentiments should be allowed to undermine the state’s solidarity.

“I call upon Sarawakians not to engage in tribalism or glamorise division. In a developing nation, division will only set us back; division will stagnate our development and fail us, this generation and the next.

“I also call on the Sarawak government and Putrajaya to promote efforts to strengthen unity. Some course-correction is necessary as we progress as a country,” he said when debating in support of the motion of appreciation for the Head of State’s address during the fifth day of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (May 10).

In another matter, Ibrahim expressed gratitude to government agencies, especially Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Padawan Municipal Council (PMC), for swiftly addressing complaints and resolving problems raised by the people of Satok.
