KUCHING: The conditional movement control order (CMCO) which allows certain economic sectors to operate is not a licence for families to go out freely.

In pointing this out, Malaysian Parents Consultative Association (Mapim) Sarawak branch chairman, Omar Immun said since the CMCO, some parents have begun to take their children out.

“It is disturbing to see parents taking their children out to public places. This has raised concern among people including netizens on social media,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

He said the war against Covid-19, an invisible enemy, was still not over and a slight mistake could make the situation worse.

“It could be that as more and more areas become green zones many people would mistakenly think that it safe to go out freely with children. It is also worrying to see children not wearing face masks because they are at risk of contracting the virus,” he said.

Therefore, he wanted parents to constantly give priority to the safety and health of their children during the CMCO in order to help prevent a resurgence of positive Covid-19 cases.

He also cautioned that with Hari Raya Puasa and Gawai Dayak coming, people have various reasons to go out such as shopping, but parents must resist the urge to go out unless there is great necessity for it.

“Every time you go out you might bring the virus back home and infect your family. Treat going out as a dangerous activity and you won’t be tempted to do it too often. With that I hope all families in Sarawak would celebrate in good health,” said Omar.
