Don’t talk only, contribute to Covid-19 fight

ALMARI SEDEKAH: A PBB N.55 Nangka youth sorts out contributions from 23 PBB Nangka branches in response to the "Almari Sedekah" which was initiated by Dr Annuar Rapaee on Friday.

KUCHING: Social media users and the general public are reminded to play their roles to help the authorities arrest the surge in Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee said it is pointless to stir up emotions and harp on sentiments as it does to lead to anything beneficial.

“Stirring up emotions and playing on sentiments only with talk or by being a keyboard warrior is pointless, even more so when you do not even contribute to definite and positive actions.

“It makes the work of others battling this pandemic even tougher when they have already been pouring their blood, sweat and tears into what they do for more than a year.

“I ask you all, for your own sake, for the sake of your family, friends and everyone else here in Sarawak, lets stand united in our fight against Covid-19,” he said in a Facebook post.

Dr Annuar said the Covid-19 pandemic has shown different facets of people when in a crisis with some only interested in criticising the work done by the authorities in the anti-pandemic fight.

“Some decide that they are suddenly experts in the various fields of medicine and disaster management, while others selfishly disregard public safety measures, and endanger their own families and communities.

“I have no issues with receiving criticism. We use criticism to improve what we do. I appreciate those who provide constructive criticism. Yet, there are those who criticise without basis or rationale,” he said.

Regardless, the Nangka assemblyman expressed his appreciation to the large majority of people in Sibu who have come together in fighting Covid-19.

“This, in spite of those who take advantage of the situation by attempting to play up emotions and sentiments of the people for their own agenda.

“The critical ingredient in standing united in any challenge is leadership. Proving yourself as a leader, reaching out to the people and being able to get things done is important,” he said.
