KUCHING: Parents need not worry about the reopening of schools as advice from the National Security Council (MKN) and the Health Ministry (MoH) has been taken into account.

Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) president Ahmad Malie said parents must welcome the move positively and put their confidence on the Education Ministry (MoE).

“I believe the decision to allow schools to reopen was made after evaluating the risks and deliberating on advice from the MKN and MoH.

“What’s left to do is for the school to ensure that the students would adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set in accordance to the reopening of school session,” he said in a statement today (Feb 20).

He further reminded the parents to also play their part in advising their children to abide by the law in ensuring that the face-to-face school session be conducted in compliance with the SOPs.

“It is fundamental for everyone to chip in their support in ensuring that the learning environment is done as safely and smoothly as possible, as well as curbing the spread of Covid-19 at the same time,” he added.

On Feb 19, Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said the face-to-face school session which was postponed earlier following the spread of Covid-19, will be commencing in stages beginning March 1.

It involves pre-school, Year 1 and 2 classes while Year 3 to Year 6 sessions would start on March 8.

Secondary school students in Kedah, Johor, Kelantan and Terengganu states will start school on April 4 while secondary school students in other states will attend school on April 5.
