Hunt for 3,000 close and casual contacts of Covid-19 positive persons starts today

KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department through the Samarahan District Health Office will be carrying out active case detection on nearly 3,000 individuals of close and casual contacts of Covid-19 positive persons in two locations in Samarahan beginning today (April 27). 

Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the two locations are in Taman Desa Ilmu and Taman Unigarden in Samarahan. 

He said the active case detection operation will be done door-to-door and it will continue until April 30.

“Through this method, we suggest that it be called targeted movement control order (MCO) as we target in on the close and casual contacts of Covid-19 positive cases,” he said in a press conference after attending the Sarawak Covid-19 special meeting at Sarawak Heart Centre yesterday. 

He said for cases that found to show symptoms of disease, they will be placed under isolation while for those without symptoms the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) swab test will be taken.

“This operation is in collaboration with the various agencies such as Samarahan Resident Office, Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Ministry of Local Government and Housing and others. 

He added about 50 teams with 100 officers will be involved as well.
