BINTULU: Big businesses here have been urged to extend their assistance to society’s less fortunate.

Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) group chief executive officer Datuk Medan Abdullah said well-to-do corporations and companies should double their efforts to show that “we do care for others, especially during hard times like now.”

“We need more organisations and corporations to step up. Bintulu is home to many big corporations and businesses. This is the time to reciprocate what society has given us. Give something back to the people and society,” he said at the closing of the Rotary charity golf tournament at Kelab Golf Bintulu (KGB) here.

“All those who are able, should step up and do their part. It doesn’t have to be much. What is important is the thought and intent behind the action or charitable deed that we do.”

On the part of BPHB, Medan, who is also KGB captain, said the group had contributed personal protective equipment (PPE) not only to its staff and family members but also to hospitals here, in Miri, Sibu and Kuching.

“Our latest contribution of PPE was to the Sarawak Kidney Foundation in Kuching sometime last week. We have also contributed other forms of assistance to many other deserving cases throughout the state.”

He urged the public to strictly observe Covid-19 SOP guidelines set by the authorities. “The SOP is meant to protect us, our families, relatives and friends.”

He also thanked the golfers and sponsors of the tournament.
