MIRI: A double-storey terrace house in Jalan Riverview 1, Mathew Garden, Kuala Baram here caught fire on Monday night.
No casualties were reported in the incident, as the owner was not in the house at that time.
“Sixteen firefighters from Miri Central fire station and Lopeng fire station with two fire engines and a water tanker were despatched to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 9.18pm.
“They managed to put out the fire from spreading to nearby houses,” said Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone Six Chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.
He added that according to information received from witnesses and nearby residents, the fire first broke out at the upper floor of the house.
The house was 70 percent destroyed, but firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire and the estimated losses has yet to be ascertained.
