KUCHING: Activist and lawyer Asiah Abd Jalil should ensure she has accurate facts before making statements about Sarawak and Sabah, according to Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.

Dr Penguang emphasised that although Malaysia is a democratic country, it is important for a respected activist like Asiah to verify her facts before speaking out. He asserted that her current statements about the present and future of Sarawak are incorrect.

“As a government servant, I have had the opportunity to work globally and collaborate with the Sarawak government on international projects. I have seen developed and developing countries around the world, but for me, Sarawak is like heaven. We enjoy peace, harmony, good air quality, diverse food options, political stability, and much more,” he shared when contacted by the New Sarawak Tribune recently.

Furthermore, Dr Penguang reminded everyone that Sarawak is actively striving to regain its rights as outlined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report, which were established to protect its interests.

“Over the past few years, we have undertaken numerous initiatives to enhance our independence and do what we believe is right and beneficial for the people of Sarawak. These efforts include diversifying our revenue sources, expanding our economic agenda, and reducing our dependence on federal bureaucracies,” he explained.

Additionally, he said that contrary to her claims on Facebook, world leaders and business communities hold a different view on Sarawak and its potential.
