SIBU: Sarawak has experienced major changes over the past 10 years under the leadership of the late Pehin Sri Tan Sri Adenan Satem and current Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said Sarawak had increased its revenue from RM7 billion in 2018 to RM11.9 billion in 2022.

“The Sarawak government provided various assistance to the people, including RM6.7 billion, to help the people and businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I call on the people of Sibu to always love and protect Sarawak and work towards achieving a prosperous state by 2030,” he said during his speech at the Chinese New Year celebrations of five branches of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) at the civic centre here yesterday (Feb 2).

Meanwhile, on the Sibu redevelopment plan, Dr Sim said the Netherlands government has expressed its intention to provide technical assistance to solve the perennial flood issue.

Dr Sim, who is SUPP president, said the state government will visit the Netherlands at the end of this month to discuss viable solution.

He said Premier Abang Johari is concerned about the redevelopment plan of Sibu and has allocated funds worth RM1 billion for that purpose.

“The redevelopment plan will involve a large part of the Sibu area which will also include the construction of a lake.

“Therefore, I urge the people of Sibu not to buy homes in Kuching as Sibu will prosper, become rich, and great. This is the government’s plan for Sibu,” he said.

Also present were the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government cum Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting.
