KUCHING: Business operators here have been praised for their quick action in informing the public whenever their premises had been visited by individuals found positive for Covid-19.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian expressed his appreciation to the business operators for helping to curb the spread of the virus.

“Thank you very much to companies like K11 (karaoke and entertainment outlet), Emart Batu Kawa (one-stop shopping mall) and many others who have stepped forward regarding the positive cases in their premises,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Jan 5).

He said the premises deserved the support of fellow Sarawakians once they are allowed to reopen following sanitisation work and the testing of staff for Covid-19.

“Let this be the new norm for businesses or offices with staff who tested positive for Covid-19.

“Your responsibility and credibility regarding the safety of the public will be deeply appreciated by fellow Sarawakians.”

Otherwise, he said, there would be rumours and this would affect business and their credibility even more.

“Public safety first rather than money first. This is you truly playing your role and doing your part for Sarawak.”

Dr Sim encouraged businesses to quickly inform the public should their premises be affected in the interest of public safety.

“This is so that those who are potentially exposed can come forward to be PCR tested and we can stop the chain of transmission.”

He also urged those who may have close contact with Covid-19 cases to get tested.

“Even if you are asymptomatic, you are still infectious to others. The one infected by you may not be so lucky, he or she may become symptomatic and die.”
