KUCHING: As many as 520 beds have been put up at SMK Tabuan Jaya and Dewan Hikmah, which will serve as Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment centres (PKRC).

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian expressed his appreciation to those involved in preparing the PKRCs.

“Thank you very much to everyone, it does not matter if you’re federal or state agencies. Just do it… all come together in getting the 520 beds ready at SMK Tabuan Jaya and Dewan Hikmah,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Aug 30).

Dr Sim explained that PKRC was a place where medical monitoring was available for those who are Covid-19 positive in Category 1, 2 and 3 with comorbidity or whose home environment is not suitable for self-isolation.

“The PKRC is similar to the public hospital environment.

“Apologies for not being able to provide the luxury of individual bath rooms, individual toilets or individual rooms.”

He said although the PKRCs run by Sarawak General Hospital were under the federal government and not the Kuching Divisional Health Office, the Sarawak government still helped as much as it could in terms of funding.

“This is because it is the people of Sarawak who need the facilities and there is no time to be calculative in times of crisis.”
