THE Tebedu assemblyman wants the constituency to be the next beef and mutton producer.
Dr Simon Sinang Bada (GPS-Tebedu) noted that the livestock sector, especially the ruminant sector, needed attention because Sarawak has to import food resources to meet demand.
As such, he urged the Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) to identify areas in Tebedu to ensure that the people can participate in the production of beef and mutton.
“Food security, food safety, and the creation of wealth for agro-based communities need to be given proper attention and addressed carefully.
“I am excited to note that M-FICORD has taken some concrete steps and initiatives towards self-sufficiency in beef and mutton.
“It’s glad to note that we are more than self-sufficient in broilers, eggs, and pork,” he said during the fifth day of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) session on Friday (Nov 25).
