Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said he hoped the proposal will be approved so that work can start immediately.

“I have approached the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) and hopefully they will be able to help me to construct a bigger monsoon drain along the main Datuk Kalong Ningkan Road,” he told reporters when met after visiting Wawasan Recreational Park, Arang Road today (March 9).

He said the priority is a bigger drain along Datuk Kalong Ningkan Road to prevent flash floods.

“Besides this, there are many things that still need to be done, and I am also trying to take care of major soil erosion and other drainage problems.

“I am hoping we will have more money so that we can improve all the dilapidated drains in the housing area,” he said.

Lo, who is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman, said speaking of money, he is glad that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is smart in looking for extra revenue for the state.

“With the grant allocated by the GPS government, we are able to improve and implement projects,” he said.

He added that annually, MPP has implemented more than 200 to 250 minor projects while the bigger projects such as roads, drains, and bridges are done by the Public Works Department (JKR) and Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID).
