KUCHING: With global climate change and the catastrophic flood seen in northern Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) in the next decade will play a more critical role in Sarawak.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this in a Facebook post on Thursday (Feb 10).

He shared that he had received a courtesy call from Ir Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi, the new director of Sarawak DID.

“Heartiest congratulations and welcome back Ir Ahmad Denney to Sarawak DID,” said Dr Sim, who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister.

“Although Sarawak DID is a state government agency, the staff are funded 50-50 by the federal government. Malaysia DID together with the Public Works Department are the only two recognised gazetted technical government agencies in Malaysia.”
