
LUNDU: A driver was killed in a self-accident when trying to avoid a pothole and lost control of his vehicle and fallen into a 40 feet ravine.
The State Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (Bomba) said it received a distress call at 6.29am today regarding a sedan vehicle fallen into a steep ravine along Jalan Lundu-Bau, near Kampung Stungkor.

A team from Lundu Bomba station was despatched to the incident location. One victim, who is the passenger, was safe but the diver was badly injured.
“Both victims were able to exit from the vehicle, but the driver was badly injured in the crash.
“Rescue team was sent down to carry the injured driver using a stretcher from the ravine,” it said.
The injured driver was transported to Lundu Hospital for treatment but later died in the emergency department.
Lundu district police chief DSP Damataries Lautin said the police also received a report about the fatal accident at 6.40am and identified the driver as Ezra Sidi, 24.
He stated that Ezra, while driving from Bau to Lundu with a passenger, was believed trying to avoid a pothole on the road causing his to lose control of his vehicle and fallen into the ravine.
Ezra’s body has been brought to the hospital’s morgue for further action. Damateries said the incident is being investigated Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
