KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah does not agree that the women’s diving event has been dropped.

“Ever since Pandalela Rinong has made international status, it has attracted a large number of interests in diving for both male and female divers.

“Sarawak is the only state that sees diving as a potential but this has been refused by the Technical Committee,” he said when speaking to the media.

Abdul Karim earlier officiated at the ‘50 Days Countdown to the 20th Malaysia Games and MSN 2022 and Launching Programme of ‘Our Star Our Pride’ at the Kuching Waterfront yesterday.

“Diving has brought tremendous joy to not only us in Sarawak but in the entire country Malaysia,” he pointed out.

He also questioned why the event was removed and said that the divers had been training since SUKMA 2018 until this year’s SUKMA 2022.

“That is 4 years; can you imagine the athletes that have been training?

“This affects the whole sport. Where is the ISN (National Sports Institute) and where are the officers in charge?”

“The decisions are made by the committee and this committee is supposed to develop sports in all the states. What have they done?”
