Drowned teenage victim found

KUCHING: The body of a teenage boy feared drown when bathing in a river at Kampung Segedup, Batu Kawa, was found on Tuesday (Sept 22) morning.

It was found less than two hours after the tragic incident.

Identified as Hairi Hakimi, 14, the victim was reported to be bathing at the river with his friends.

He was said to have risked his life in saving one of his friends from drowning despite being a poor swimmer.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre stated that firemen from Batu Lintang fire station first responded to a distress call about the incident at 9.46am on the same day.

When the team members arrived at the scene, they began the search and rescue (SAR) operation by using water surface searching method with the villagers.

The team eventually found the victim’s body about 15 feet from the location where the victim was last seen at 11.35am.

The body was handed over to the police to be taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further action.
