BINTULU: A woman was among six persons arrested for alleged involvement in substance abuse in a budget hotel last Monday.

District police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said a Bintulu NCID team carried out the raid at the old Bintulu market area around 3pm.

In the operation, the team inspected all the rooms in the budget hotel and found the suspects aged between 22 and 51 in some of the rooms.

“Two of them were found in possession of two straw tubes containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu, weighing around 1g.

“All of them — five men and a woman — also tested positive for drugs,” he said.

The six suspects and the drug seized were taken to the police station for further actions.

Zulkipli said the suspects would be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for using drugs.

If convicted, they may be fined not more than RM5,000 or jailed for not more than two years.

Meanwhile, two of the suspects will also be investigated under Section 12(2) of the same Act for possessing drugs. If convicted, they can be fined not more than RM100,000 or face a jail term of not more than two years.

Zulkipli said that operations would  be conducted continuously to eradicate drug abuse activities, especially in budget hotels around the old Bintulu market.
