SIBU: Quick actions by the police have resulted in the arrest of a man who attempted to run away with a girl while under the influence of drugs today.

Sibu Deputy OCPD Supt Martin Koo said the police were able to catch and arrest the 30-year-old suspect before he could run further with the girl.

“In a haste to elude the police, the suspect lost hold of the girl which caused her to fall to the ground and sustain bodily injuries,” he said.

Koo added that earlier at 9.30am on May 28, the girl’s stepmother made a distress call to the police as the suspect had locked himself in a room with the girl in their rented house at Jalan Lada.

“The stepmother then heard the girl’s cry and attempted to open the door but failed as it was locked from inside.”

The police then rushed to the scene to save the girl.

According to Koo, investigations revealed that the girl is the suspect’s daughter from his previous marriage.
