Drug raids nab 13 including pregnant woman

MIRI: A heavily pregnant woman was among 13 people arrested by the local branch of the National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) during a seven-hour operation at six villages in Bekenu.

The villages are Kampung Kuala Sibuti, Kampung Padang Kelulit, Kampung Tunah Tiris, Kampung Masjid Tiris, Kampung Bulau and Kampung Keluru Tengah.

The operation headed by Miri Nada chief Mazlan Jikran ran from 9pm on April 22 until 4am on April 23.

Mazlan said those arrested are from 20 to 70 years old.

“Two of that 13 arrested are women,” he said.

All suspects tested positive for drugs (syabu).

Mazlan added that all of them were detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependents (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.

In one of the locations, the team which was also assisted by Rela, Miri Welfare Department and Resident Committee also found inside a house and detained a 39-year-old woman and her 63-year-old lover, both of whom, also tested positive for drugs.

“We also arrested three siblings during the operation,” said Mazlan, adding that they actually checked 21 people during the operation and detained 13 for drug abuse.
