KUCHING: Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly trafficking drugs worth RM5,923 at Kampung Bako Hilir, Petra Jaya on Thursday (Apr 8).

Kuching district acting police chief, Supt Merbin Lisa said the suspect is being remanded for eight days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA) 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

He said that police, acting on information received, arrested the suspect at 1pm and seized a total of 34 transparent plastic packets containing methamphetamine (weighing 33.76 grams) and 50 straw tubes from the man.

“The drugs were transacted via banked in and it will be dumped at a place that will be notified by the supplier after the transaction is done,” he said.

According to Merbin, the suspect tested negative for drugs and he had no record of past offences.

He urged the public to channel information on drug distributions in their respective areas so that the police could take immediate actions to eradicate the menace.
