Drugs: Unemployed man faces gallows if convicted

KUCHING: An unemployed man from Sibu will face the gallow under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA)1952 if convicted for peddling drugs.

Sarawak Head of Narcotics Department Supt Sahar Latif confirmed that acting on information and intelligence, a team of narcotics personnel from Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters, Kuching raided at 10am Thursday a house in Oya Road, Sibu and arrested the suspect.

He said they checked the upper floor of the house and found a small bag hidden in the attic containing 10 Erimin 5 pills. The total weight was 31.30g. Also found were 14 transparent packages containing Ketamin weighing 13g and 58 Ecstasy pills weighing 18.70g.

Further checks in the house led the team to find a black plastic bag in the first rack drawer which contained eight different coloured plastic
packets containing fruit juice and Ecstasy pills weighing 204.20g. The suspect initially admitted that the drugs were meant for entertainment centres around Sibu town.

Sahar said all the drugs found were confiscated and the suspect was detained under Section 39B of DDA 1952, Section 39A (2) DDA 1952 and Section 39A (1) DDA 1952. He was ordered to be remanded seven days to facilitate police investigation.
