Drunken rampage earns man a year in prison

KUCHING: A local man who assaulted his sister and threatened to kill her, his grandmother and aunt will pay for his crime behind bars over the next year.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali sentenced Bryon, 25, to a year in prison after he admitted to committing three offences during a drunken rampage at his grandmother’s residence in Kampung Stampin Iban last Friday (Jan 27).

On the first charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code he willfully caused injury to his 17-year-old sister by beating her until she was hurt on the left arm.

He also admitted to intentionally damaging property belonging to his 63-year-old grandmother, including a table, cabinet doors, five chairs, and kitchen goods, resulting in a loss of RM3,000.

Bryon also made death threats against his grandmother, aunt and sister.

Syarifah sentenced him to three months’ prison for the first offence, a one-year prison term for the second and a six-month prison sentence for the third charge.

The court ordered him to serve the terms concurrently, meaning he will be in prison for a year, beginning from the date of his arrest on Jan 27.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad.
