KUCHING: There have been more calls for the country’s deputy prime minister’s post to be given to a candidate who is either from Sarawak or Sabah.

Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) Information chief Mohammad Hafidz Rohani said it was time for Malaysia to have a deputy prime minister from East Malaysia.

“All this while we have been very supportive of the government and we have contributed a lot in terms of economic and our resources, apart from showing stability in our leadership and politics.

“Thus, it is fair for the federal government to look into this matter and our concern, the people of Sarawak and Sabah,” he said on Friday (Aug 20).

He also said that MPs should put aside ambitions to be at the top or nominated into the Cabinet or government-linked companies (GLCs).

Last Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing had proposed for the creation of two deputy prime minister’s posts, one of which should be allocated to either Sarawak or Sabah.
