KUCHING: A group of 30 Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) Kapit members paid a courtesy visit on Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing at his office today (Aug 17).

During the visit, the group has raised several issues and among them was to give chances to DUBS Kapit to do small contract works that befit their classes as now most of the jobs are given to people from outside.

Masing said other issues that were brought up included the renewal of Contractor and Consultant Registration Unit (UPKJ) Class F which was too slow and resulted to some losing opportunities to participate in projects.

“Other than that, the contract to supply school rations is given to a few big contractors from outside Kapit. Kapit DUBS should be given such contracts too as practised in the past,” he said.

The group also said the Upper Rajang Development Agency (Urda) should be allowed to spilt some contracts into small portions, so that DUBS contractors can participate too.

“The group also said the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) should also allow DUBS Kapit contractor to lay water pipes,” he said.

Masing said he had informed the group that contracts worth RM200,000 and below will be given to Class F contractors by the village security and development committees (JKKK) but with advice from the District Office and Public Works Department (JKR).
