KUCHING: The Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) has received another RM10 million in business funds, aimed at providing training and development opportunities for its members and business partners.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he had agreed to provide the allocation to the chamber.

“DUBS already has a business fund of RM10 million of which I have allocated previously. Tonight (May 4), I am allocating another RM10 million for the same purpose.

“But what is important is that Sarawakians must also protect its unity among each other,” he said.

He said this during the DUBS’ Aidilfitri gathering held at the Raia Hotel and Convention Centre Kuching last night (May 4).

Earlier, DUBS president Datuk Abang Helmi Ikhwan said the chamber is the largest collective organisation of Bumiputera entrepreneurs and professionals in Sarawak.

Last year, he said, there were a total of 3,145 registered members with 15 branches across the state.

“This represents 73 percent of Bumiputera traders and professionals registered with all business associations in Sarawak.

“In terms of size, 70 percent of Bumiputera businesses are categorised as Micro and 30 per cent as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

“Therefore, 3,221 of them are in the service sector, 872 in construction, 80 in manufacturing and tourism, and others across various sectors,” he said.

On the DUBS’ Bumiputera Biz Fund Programme, Helmi expressed his appreciation to the Premier for providing the RM10 million fund for the year 2022/2023, of which was channelled through the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED).

“DUBS has spent all our allocations through 14 service providers under the Sarawak government’s list of which is among our members,” he said.

He added various courses were conducted such as in entrepreneurship, finance, and engineering, and electrical installation competencies.

“These basic courses have been attended by over 2,500 people. Now, we need to continue this programme and hope for continuous support from the state government,” said Helmi.
