KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday fined Eric Chang Wei Jie’s mother RM3,000 in default three months’ jail for being involved in drug abuse activities.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi meted out the sentence on Dynasty Chang Ka Hui after she pleaded guilty to the charge read out in front of her.

The court also ordered the accused to undergo supervision for two years after she finished paying the fine or serving her sentence.

Based on the charges, the 25-year-old mother was charged with taking amphetamine and methamphetamine while at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office of the Kuching Police Headquarters, at about 3.20pm on June 12, 2017.

She was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 (Act 234) and sentenced under Section 15 of the same act which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for a maximum of two years, if convicted.

Prosecuting officer ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.

A four-year-old child named Eric was reported missing on March 7 while being cared for by his babysitter in a residential area in Bintawa.

Eric’s search operation began on March 13 around the Muara Tebas river and ended on March 19 at 6pm.
