KUCHING: The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) observed a minute of silence to mourn the passing of Dewan Negara Speaker Datuk Mutang Tagal.
Mutang, 70, passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN), Kuala Lumpur, at 11.46 am on Friday (May 10).
DUN Deputy Speaker Datuk Idris Buang, presiding over the afternoon session, called upon members of the August House to pay their respects.
“Honourable Members, I have a small but very important announcement to make.
“With utmost sadness and regret, I want to announce that Dewan Negara Speaker, YB Datuk Mutang Tagal, had just passed away while the Dewan was hearing YB Tanjung Datu’s speech, and while the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Malaysia was in the Dewan.
“It is humbly requested that all YBs and myself here show our greatest respect to the late Datuk Mutang Tagal by giving one minute’s silence according to our individual and respective beliefs,” he said.
Mutang had been receiving treatment at the IJN after falling ill during a working trip to Azerbaijan on May 6.
