DUN sitting adjourned sine die

KUCHING: The 18th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) adjourned sine die at 1.10pm yesterday after eight days.

On the first day, the August House decided to suspend Wong King Wei (PH-Padungan) with a vote of 64 to nine.

Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Karim Hamzah moved the motion to recommend the findings made by the Committee of Privileges to suspend Wong for 12 months for his remarks against the DUN and its speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar in the last sitting in November.

Another historic moment was recorded on the same day, April 30, when all assemblymen from both government and opposition sides voted in favour of amending Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution, which was tabled by Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

Apart from that, a motion by See Chee How (PH-Batu Lintang) to object the relocation of the High Court Registry of Sabah and Sarawak from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu was also unanimously approved.

The session also saw a motion from Dr Ting Tiong Choon (PH-Pujut) regarding the amendment of the Federal Constitution.

At the same time, the DUN sitting saw the tabling and passing of two bills, namely the Supplementary Supply Bill 2018 and Supplementary Supply Bill 2019, which was moved by Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.

The motion of adjournment was tabled by Agriculture Assistant Minister Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail (GPS-Bukit Kota).

Prior to the adjournment, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman (GPS-Tupong) proposed that the motion of appreciation to the Head of State Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s address be accepted. Majang Renggi (GPS-Samalaju) seconded the motion.
