Duo busted for drug possession

MIRI: Two men were arrested for possessing drugs worth more than RM240,000 during a raid conducted last Thursday.

District police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the raid took place around 3.50pm in a house at Jalan Kin Link Garden, Piasau.

A team arrested two locals, both aged 29, on the suspicion of being involved in substance abuse.

“The team carried out inspections in the house and found 130 plastic packets containing drugs believed to be methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) weighing around 4.25kg; 40 tin foil boards containing 400 pills suspected to be Erimin 5 weighing around 0.114kg; three plastic packets containing white powder suspected to be syabu weighing around 2.1kg; and two plastic packets containing white powder suspected to be ketamine weighing around 1.7kg.

“All the drugs were valued at an estimated cost of RM248,500, and a Toyota Vios worth RM53,000 was also seized. Thus, bringing the total seizure value to RM301,500,” he said.

The suspects and seized items were taken to Miri NCID office for further action.

Hakemal pointed out that both suspects were tested positive for drugs and will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He added that the suspects are currently remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and if convicted, can be sentenced to death.
