Duo detained for raping disabled teen

JULAU: Police arrested two men, including a foreigner, on suspicion of molesting and raping a teenage girl with disability recently.

Julau OCPD DSP Andam Sulin Brayun said the suspects were detained last Sunday (June 5) after the victim’s mother lodged a police report.

The complainant claimed that the victim’s stepfather and a foreigner had molested and raped her 14-year-old daughter around 6.45pm on June 4.

“Both men were arrested by Julau Criminal Investigation Division (CID) the same day the police report was filed.

“The Sarikei Magistrate’s Court has granted a seven-day remand on the two suspects,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 and Section 376B of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the suspects are liable to a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping under Section 376 of the Penal Code and another jail term of up to 20 years and whipping under Section 37B of the same. code.

Andam said police would not compromise with anyone who committed any offences against children.

“We hope the community will work responsibly with us in dealing rape and sexual assault cases effectively,” he said.
