Duo detained in Miri for suspected drug trafficking

MIRI: The police detained two locals  on suspicion of drug trafficking during a raid in the city and seized a substantial quantity of drugs weighing a total of 1,554.15 grams.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu who confirmed the arrested, said the suspects a man and a woman aged 23 and 46, were detained on Apr 20, during a raid by Miri narcotics police on an entertainment centre here.

A significant quantity of illicit substances was seized.

Among the confiscated items were ketamine (9.68 grams), ecstasy powder (15.36 grams) and Erimin 5 pills (8.47 grams) valued at RM1,710.00.

Both suspects are currently in custody to assist in the ongoing investigation under Section 39A(1) of the The Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, they could face imprisonment of between two and five years, in addition to corporal punishment.

The case is also being investigated under Section 12(2) of The Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with potential penalties including a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.

Meanwhile, the police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected drug-related activities promptly.
