BEE Campaign promotional poster for Kanowit

KAPIT: The Department of Environment together with Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) in collaboration with Kapit District Council and Kanowit District Council will organise a Household Electrical and Electronic Waste (BEE) Collection Campaign (household e-waste).

According to a statement on Thursday (June 16), the programme is held to ensure that e-waste is collected and segregated to recover beneficial materials/valuable resources that can contribute to sustainable development and protect the environment.

“E-waste that is not handled in an environmentally friendly manner can cause serious health problems and pollution because e-waste contains pollutants or heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, beryllium and so on.

“The public can bring their e-waste to this programme and the licensed contractor will purchase it at a certain price for the purpose of recycling and environmental sustainability.”

The programme will run for two days – June 25 at Kapit District Council’s compound and June 26 at Fort Emma Square in front of the Kanowit District Council.
