BINTULU: An elderly woman and a child were among four individuals who were injured in a two-vehicle collision near Baku junction, Jalan Bintulu-Miri, here this morning.

The accident, involving a pick-up truck and a lorry laden with oil palm fruits, happened around 6.10 am.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Bintulu station were dispatched to the scene, about 75km away, after receiving an emergency call.

They found the victims, comprising two adult men, an elderly woman and a boy, had earlier been rescued out of the pick-up truck by passers-by.

All of them received initial on-site treatment from the paramedics. There were later taken to Bintulu Hospital in two ambulances.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team conducted flushing works and helped to move the pick-up truck to the roadside to prevent traffic congestion.

The team concluded the operation at 7.30 am.
