KUCHING: Asteel Group brought early Hari Raya cheer to of 53 needy families in Kampung Muhibbah here.

The recipients received donations of daily essential items comprising two bags of rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits and noodles.

Only a few representatives of the families were present at the handover ceremony held at Pusat Kebajikan PDK Sri Satok Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang yesterday.

Fong Fui Yee, head of Commercial Division for Asteel Group, represented its managing director, Victor Hii.

He hoped the donation of the food packages could lessen the burden of the families affected by the MCO (movement control order) and CMCO (conditional movement control order) during  Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“It is part of Asteel Group’s annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

“The programme is not limited to Kampung Muhibbah but also covers other kampung in Kuching.

“It is the first time Asteel Group is donating to the families of Kampung Muhibbah and this centre,” he said.

President of Welfare Organisation, Datuk Dr Munirah Mohd Hassan, was present at the handover ceremony.

She thanked Asteel Group for its contribution.

One of the recipients, Dewi Malian, 52, said the donation could lessen the burden of her family.

“Although this year’s Hari Raya celebration is different, with this donation, I feel relieved and thankful.

“My family has been affected by the MCO. We are unable to leave the house, go to work or even get our supply of daily necessities,” she told New Sarawak Tribune.

Also present at the handover ceremony were Yusof Md Darus, chairman of Asteel Makmur Sdn Bhd, and its staff.
