KUCHING: Five needy families here today received Hari Raya goodies from members of the media through ‘Program Santun Kasih’.

The programme was a joint effort between Astro Awani Sarawak, Suara Sarawak and Borneo Channel.

The families were previously highlighted by Astro Awani Sarawak and the five recipients were Faishul Hassan, Karmira Benny, Ngu Tek Ngik, Norlela Bujang and Rombli Jusni.

Tanjung Selatan Resources manager Rudi Affendi Khalik stated that the programme was organised in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

“We brought packed food from Maggi®, cookies, carbonated drinks and raya money for the needy families.

“I would like to thank various parties including Suara Sarawak and Borneo Channel for their collaboration in making this programme a success. This is the first step in organising more similar programmes in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rombli’s wife Pauziah Razak thanked Astro Awani Borneo for helping her family.

She pointed out that the family’s new home was a significant improvement from the previous one which faced many problems like a leaking roof.

“I am very grateful that we can live in a better home with water and electricity supply. Our previous home was dilapidated and we had to spend RM15 every night to buy fuel for the generator.

“This home is enough for my family and I am very grateful,” she said.

Last year, Astro Awani Borneo shared the story of Rombli and Pauziah who collected midin and paku pakis (wild ferns) in the Matang area to earn a living.

They previously lived at a dilapidated home next to Surau Taman Won.
