LO Khere Chiang (SUPP-Batu Kitang) has asked the state government to implement a people-centric project to effectively tackle the growing traffic demands and alleviate traffic congestion at the alternative route from Kota Sentosa CBD to the Kuching International Airport (KIA).

He said rapid development and population increase around Kota Sentosa had brought about a huge increase in traffic volume.

“The road system and traffic flow from Kota Sentosa CBD to KIA need to be improved and upgraded in order to increase the capacity of the roads and intersections,” he said when debating on the Supply (2021) Bill 2020 in the DUN sitting today.

He said one of the key factors causing the heavy congestion here was the lack of direct access from Kota Sentosa CBD to KIA.

He also urged the state government to construct the proposed Jalan Datuk Amar Stephen Yong with Jalan Datuk Amar Wee Boon Ping T-junction to Jalan Batu Kitang with Datuk Amar Stephen Yong T-junction.

Lo said this stretch of road was heavily congested on a daily basis and had become an extremely accident-prone area.

He suggested that the state government take back the land on which Kemas school buildings currently stood such as the one  in RPR Landeh in his Batu Kitang constituency.

“The federal Education Ministry is paying for the teachers’ salaries only and like the Kemas school in RPR Landeh, we have to come up with our own funds to repair and maintain the school,” he said, adding that the parents had to pay for everything used by the school including printer ink, paper and utility bills.

He pointed out that it was unfair to use Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds to sustain the upkeep and operation of Kemas kindergartens.

“If we are to come up with funds for the maintenance of these schools, we should take the land back and rent it to Kemas instead,” he said.

Lo also called for a police station to be set up at 10th Mile for the public’s convenience, pointing out that his constituents in Padawan had to travel all the way to 17th Mile police station to lodge reports.

“The present station is just a rented office in a small shophouse at 10th Mile,” said Lo.

He requested for the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) to install fibre optic lines in the Jalan Batu Kitang and Jalan Landeh areas under his Batu Kitang constituency to increase reception as internet connectivity there was unsatisfactory.

On the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) funds, he requested the federal government to allow such funds to be used for the maintenance of back lanes in residential areas.
