KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) is appealing to the Election Commission (EC) to recount the results for the Lubok Antu parliamentary constituency during the 15th general election (GE15).

Johnical Rayong Ngipa, who was the PSB candidate contesting in the constituency said he is not satisfied with the results after he lost by 100 votes in Saturday’s election.

“During the announcement, I requested the returning officer (RO) to recount, but it was not allowed to.

“There was no reason given to me as to why the recount was not allowed,” he told reporters at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) today (Nov 23).

Johnical said that before the official result, it was announced around 7pm through the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) and national television channels that PSB had won in the Lubok Antu parliamentary seat.

However, he was later told that he had lost by 100 votes.

“Therefore, I urge the EC to take action to determine the validity of the decision.

“It is within my right to ask for a recount as the majority is too little,” he said.

He pointed out that a petition will be filed soon and the voters in Lubok Antu, have already lodged a police report on the matter.

Meanwhile, PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh added that democracy must be fully practised and justified.

“A difference of 100 votes, is too close to call. I think a recount should be allowed,” he said.

For the record, Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) greenhorn Roy Angau Gingkoi who secured 6,644 votes, won the Lubok Antu parliamentary seat defeating Johnical Rayong who polled 6,544 votes.
