KUCHING: There is no escaping from the inevitable economic repercussion following Covid-19, said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
He said all countries around the world are suffering from the same fate as similar measures to restrict movements are implemented.
He pointed out that with the restrictions imposed, losses are incurred by companies, small medium enterprises (SME), industries and entrepreneurs.
“We have no choice but to impose the movement control order (MCO) as we don’t want what happened in Italy, Spain and Germany to happen here, where the community is moving freely.
“Now we are seeing the infection spreading rapidly in America as the people there are prioritising liberty, human rights and the leaders have no control on their movements.
“What they don’t realise is the effect of their actions on their economy and the resultant deaths caused by the virus,” he told RTM during a televised ‘Bicara Naratif’ interview on Friday night.
Wan Junaidi said the government was working to mitigate the losses and ensuring that businesses can get back on their feet after the MCO is lifted.
“The government is reacting quickly to this and we have formed a Special Cabinet Committee comprising of all ministers involved in the economic and security aspects of the administration.
“Through the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Economic Action Council (EAC), we have met representatives of the businesses and obtained their views on the situation,” he said.
