KUCHING: An education fund to assist selected students in Bukit Saban to further their education will be set up next year.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that together with Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat, they would contribute to the funding.

Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, added that the idea for the fund came about during a dialogue session earlier in the afternoon last Saturday with about 130 people.

“We (Uggah and Chuat) want Bukit Saban students to be able to compete with others.

“We certainly want them to receive good education and when they have good education, they can get jobs and improve their standard of living,” he said during a Christmas and New Year dinner organised by Bukit Saban Youth last Saturday, here at a local hotel.

Uggah added that the students have also played their part in developing not only Betong, but also the state.

Noting that some members were musically talented, Uggah also stated that he would help them to set up a band.

“They could then perform at functions and celebrations,” he said.
