PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has lodged a police report against a Facebook user for posting an allegation that tenders for the supply of cooked food at school hostels were monopolised by supporters of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and approved by non-qualified parties close to its minister Dr Maszlee Malik’s and its secretary-general (KSU).

The MOE lodged the report against Rafi Awang Kechik at the Putrajaya Police headquarters on Friday, following his Facebook posting on Dec 22, 2018 regarding the tenders.

In a statement on Monday, the MOE stressed that its minister, political secretaries and secretary of the ministry’s Procurement Division were not at all involved in the decision-making process.

“The ministry maintains the principle of transparency, accountability and integrity in the procurement process and this has been reiterated by the new government,” it said, adding that the authorities should investigate the allegation.

The ministry said that the Procurement Board chaired by its deputy secretaries-general together with representatives from the Finance Ministry and the Public Works Department ensured that decisions were made with integrity and not influenced by any party.

The statement added that the Finance Ministry through a letter dated June 29, 2018 had also instructed that the online eProcurement (eP) system be fully used to ensure that integrity practices were observed. – Bernama
