LUNDU: Two-way communication between the government and the community in relation to national administration matters is important, especially at the grassroots level to ensure the effective distribution of information.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said effective communication will avoid confusion on local issues while creating a clear understanding, especially involving aspects of development.

“The administrative and management system of the country, including the state of Sarawak, requires the government to cooperate with the people who involve understanding, acceptance and support at the grassroots level,” he said.

He said this in a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) during the launching ceremony of Special Local Action Communication Programme (KOMTIS) at Kampung Biawak Multipurpose Hall here, recently.

Meanwhile, Billy also welcomed the implementation of the special KOMTIS programme organised by the Malaysian Information Department (Japen) Sarawak which provides information to the community on the Malaysia-Indonesia border, especially Kampung Biawak on aspects and issues related to security and crime.

Every community plays a major role as the eyes and ears of the government, especially when it comes to matters of interest and security in an area, Billy added.

“This is because any behavior and actions that pose a threat to security should be reported immediately to the authorities for preventive measures,” he stressed.

Therefore, Bily insisted, the community should always establish a good communication relationship with government agencies in their respective areas.

“The communities that live near the border, must also always be vigilant because it is a hot area which is the main route for smuggling of subsidised goods and prohibited goods such as drugs that can cause damage to the young generation,” he told.
