Eight arrested for cockfighting, slapped with RM10k fine

A Kapit CID team raided an illegal cockfighting session and arrested eight men last Sunday.

KAPIT: Eight men were arrested and slapped with a RM10,000 fine each for engaging in an illegal cockfighting activity as well as violating the conditional movement control order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) last Sunday (Mar 21).

Kapit district police chief DSP Freddy Bian said a team from the Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department, acting on information, raided a house in Taman Country Height at 2.45pm and found the men at an open space behind the house.

“The team also seized 10 live roosters, seven dead roosters and a weighing scale,” he said.

He said the suspects, aged between 45 and 54, were taken to the police station for further action.

The case is being under Section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1963.

Freddy added that a compound of RM10,000 were issued to the suspects for offenses under Regulation 9 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Local Area Infections) Regulations 2020.
