KUCHING: Eight finalists will be vying for the Goddess of Gates 2019 beauty contest title.

They are Brenda Phua, 22, Evita Grave Simon, 22, Stephanie Audrey John, 25, Stephanie Ejat, 25, Nayomee Nilmini, 24, Agnes Lau, 26, Jasmine Lai, 24, and Michelle Stevenson, 24.

They will compete in the final to be held at Gates of Heaven (GoH) Restaurant from 8pm to 12pm on April 27.

“They went through three rounds of competition and the best eight (finalists) were selected on March 15,” she said at a press conference in the Gates of Heaven Restaurant at Jalan Datuk Abdul Rahman here on Saturday night.

She said during the whole month of March until the finals, many activities such as charity programmes, classes, and rehearsal will be organised for the finalists.

“On March 24, the finalists will be going to Telok Melano to clean the beach there,” she said.

Alma also revealed that a popular local singer Jennifer Jack, winner of Bachelor of Malaysia Sarawak 2019 Ron Loyd, Ricky Raka and Deborah Dawson will be among the judges in the final.

Meanwhile, owner of GoH Geoffrey Lim said it is the first time they are organising the beauty pageant.

“This is our first time organising a beauty pageant and we are hoping for its success. We also want to thank those involved in this event,” he said.

Lim hopes that the event will not be the last. He looks forward to working with other parties on a bigger scale event in the future.

The champion will bring home RM3,000, a one-year Gates of Heaven Ambassador contract worth RM12,000 and a trip to Bali while the first runner-up and second runner-up will receive RM2,000 and RM1,000, respectively.

The beauty pageant’s co-director Alma Ridi said the audition started on March 2 and attracted 20 lasses from Kuching.

The five consolation prize winners will each get RM300.

There will also be five subsidiary titles to be won, namely Miss Gates Photogenic, Miss Gates Talent, Miss Gates Popular, Miss Gates Songkran, and Miss Congeniality. The five winners will get RM250 each.

Besides, winner of the Best Fashion Designer will get RM1,500, a trophy and a certificate while the Best Photographer will get RM300, a trophy and a certificate.

Also present at the press conference were Goddess of Gates 2019 project director Aloysius Sibek and GoH general manager John Paul Gonzalles Gosele.
