BAU: Eight illegal immigrants were ordered to turn back after they were caught crossing the Malaysia-Indonesia border by a patrol unit.

A spokesperson for the First Infantry Division headquarters said the immigrants were spotted crossing the border by a patrol unit in an area of operation under the Third Infantry Brigade.

“The patrol unit came across the immigrants at 11.45am on July 22, acting suspicious – they came from the border crossing into Malaysia illegally.

“All of them are Indonesian men, aged from 23 to 45, and they did not have any valid documents to cross the border,” said the spokesperson in a statement today.

Inspections on all eight men were conducted and found no illegal items besides clothes and personal items, including Indonesian currency cash amounted to IDR2,706 ,209 (RM802).

Seven smartphones were also found, bringing in the total worth of the items found were expected to be RM5,792.

“All of the eight illegal immigrants were ordered to turn back to Indonesia at 12.40pm after a police report was lodged at Bau district police headquarters,” said the spokesperson.
